Ever since I saw this photo of my daughter Micaela, I thought I would love to make a quilt out of it. I tried a number of times to applique the face, but couldn't capture her. Finally I took this workshop at Asilomar and learned how to paint the face.

He wanted to make sure that his sister's quilt would be in the show too and hanging next to his! From A Celebration of Hearts book from about 10 years ago. It is a heart sampler in rainbow colors.

I incorporated the bow tie knot technique into my own pattern with five circles in the middle for my five children. I dedicated the quilt to my husband, John. Piecing this quilt was very helpful in getting through the grieving process for John's passing in Oct. of 2001. The pattern is from Jackie Robinson's "Three Dimensional Patchwork Sampler."
